Senior Database Administrator – MSSQL / AWS Migration

We are looking for a senior-level, client-facing DBA role focused on migrating Microsoft SQL Server databases from on-premises infrastructure to AWS, while also training and mentoring the client's existing DBA team throughout the transition.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead MSSQL database migrations to AWS (RDS, EC2, DMS)

• Train and mentor client DBAs on managing MSSQL in the cloud

• Create documentation, runbooks, and training materials

• Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, and incident response

• Conduct gap analyses between on-prem and AWS configurations

Must-Have Qualifications:

• 7+ years of MSSQL DBA experience (SQL Server 2016+)

• Hands-on experience with AWS database services (RDS, EC2, DMS)

• Knowledge of high availability solutions (Always On, Failover Clusters, Log Shipping)

• Strong SQL Server internals knowledge (query optimization, indexing, TempDB, etc.)

• Experience training or mentoring technical teams

Nice to Have:

• AWS certifications (Database Specialty or Solutions Architect)

• IaC experience (Terraform, CloudFormation)

• Oil & Gas industry background

• Prior consulting/professional services experience

Soft Skills: Strong communicator, patient mentor, self-directed, comfortable in a consulting environment with shifting priorities.
